National Transit Authority to open sub-station in Southeastern Liberia

HARPER, Liberia- The National Transit Authority of Liberia is expected to establish a sub-station in Pleebo City,Maryland County to enhance transportation in the southeastern region, hundreds of miles from Monrovia.

According to NTA Managing Director Herbie McCauly, buses from the substation will transports residents from Pleebo ,Maryland to Fish Town ,River Gee, Barclayville Grand Kru, Greenville,Sinoe and Zwedru Grand Gedeh County.

India on December 18, 2019, donated 45 buses and 2 Million United states dollars as grant to the Liberian government and its people.

The southeast, comprising of River Gee, River Cess, Grand Kru, Maryland, Sinoe and Grand Gedeh Counties, is the largest of the four man regions of the country and is often cut off from the rest of the country during rainy seasons due to bad roads.

He said at the turnover of buses to the Tubman University and the County authority that the southeast is a part of Liberia. “I’m glad that President Weah asked us to establish our substation here in Maryland,”

He said he had assessed the roads and found that the buses can be used on them.

“I was told by the County Superintendent that kids walk about 10 ten to 15 fifteen miles to their schools, assuring that the NTA will provide free transportation services to students from nursery to Grade 12 during weekdays between from 6:00 to 7:45 A.M.

“Additionally two buses will be brought into the County anytime this year as we establish our substation in Pleebo city,“ McCauley disclosed.

While in the county, he said the NTA will seek to improve the lives of Marylanders.

“We will be creating our substation and we will employ qualified Marylanders to work in these offices and run the affairs of the NTA on a daily basis,” according to National Transit Authority Managing Director.
