Hundreds of citizens of ELWA Community in Paynesville and River Cess have lavished praises on National Port Authority Managing Director, Bill Twehway for identifying with them for Liberia’s Independence Day celebration.

On Tuesday July 26, 2022, Liberians celebrated 175 years of existence of their country, a nation founded by the American Colonization Society (ACS) in 1822, gaining independence in 1847, exactly 25 years later.

Before Tuesday’s observance, there had been radio commentaries and social media posts from political pundits and ordinary Liberians predicting a poor celebration, citing harsh economic conditions in the country. It’s against this backdrop that Mr. Twehway says he chose to intervene.

The NPA managing director on Saturday July 22, 2022 provided rice, fish and soft drinks to over four hundred residents of the ELWA Community, before heading to River Cess, his home county.

Each of the towns received at least 35 bags of rice, 40,000 Liberian dollars and soft drinks.

Areas that benefited from MD Twehway’s gesture include James, Wolobone, Zoryeah, Logan, Gblorseo, Saryah, Cee and Topo Towns.

In Yarpah Town where he had promised to constructing a teacher quarter, Mr. Twehway gave 20 kg bags of rice, soft drinks and US$100.

The principal, Jerome G. Reeves, in a social media post, thanked the senior River Cess kinsman for identifying with his teachers.

“Thanks to MD. Dr. Bill Twehwaye for making the teachers at the Yarpah Town public high School to smile, for the 20 half bags of Rice, with 17crake of soft drink available for the celebration of july 26,2022.”

“Hon MD, The administration and the entire teaching staff at the YTPS say thank you, may God continuously bless you, Happy independence day”.

Mr. Charles Harrison Teah, Sr., Secretary General of the National Civil Society Council of Liberia, River Cess chapter, described the goodwill of Twehway as remarkable. Teah, whose son, Charles Harrison Teah, Jr. is studying in Cyprus at the expense of the NPA boss, said the gift will go a long way, while calling on other prominent citizens to emulate his example.

“We want to say a big thank you to Dr. Twehway for what he’s done for our people. When some us say this man is a true humanitarian, people would have all kinds of things to say. They would say because my son is on his scholarship. Thank you, Bill Twehway for all you’re doing for your county”.

Liberian popular musician, Daniel George says: “Dr. Bill Twehway hand marks all over the countyBigger Respect Boss”.

“Happy Independence Day”.

Curtis Harris: “Congratulations to Hon. Bill Twehway for the job well done, comes 2023 your people shall surely give you the County as their senator”.

Ellen Sardy had this to say: “Thank you so much our papay, may God continue to strength you and your family”.

Bill Twehway is on record for scores of his humanitarian and development interventions in River Cess. He reconstructed Cee Town, his birth place, replacing huts with modern homes. He’s constructing additional housing units and teacher quarters as well as schools.
