Family disputes are common in many Liberian homes nowadays, with some of them even becoming violent.

A 63-year-old man, John Nuah is appealing to government and human rights groups to help him seek justice, after allegedly being beaten by his son-in-law in the Rehab Community in the Paynesville City, a suburb of Monrovia.

Isaac Roberts, a former Deputy Managing Director at the National Housing Authority who was dismissed by President Weah due to alleged financial mismanagement, is legally married to the old man’s daughter who is currently in the United States of America.

But when contacted, Mr Isaac Roberts’s said his action was in defense of his life after he was allegedly hit on the face with a radio by his father-in-law during the incident.

According to information gathered, the couple are facing serious marital problem that may have prompted Roberts’ alleged action.

‘’Since I was flattened by my in law in February, I have been feeling pain in my head, chest and on my nick. It is causing me not to sleep at night up to now,’’ he said.

According to Mr. Nuah, it all started on the second Sunday of February 2020, which was on the 8th at about 1:30 am, when his son-in-law sent his sister’s children to occupy the apartment where he lives in the same compound without his concern.

Mr. Nuah explained that based on his refusal to allow Roberts’ family from entering the apartment, his Son-in-law was angry and started abusing, later over reacted by allegedly beating him “without fear”.

The elderly man told reporters that Mr. Isaac Roberts has threatened to kill him and prove to the family that he Roberts can kill.

‘’He said I will kill you and I will take off your eyes to show you how really I can kill, he plugged his fingers in my eyes  and he said I coming finish him  it was in that time I falloff,’’ he narrated.

The old man further explained that after the intervention by his neighbor, he was asked by one Gabriel to report the matter to the Police which he did at the Zone 8 Police station in Paynesville. But up to present, there has been no intervention by the Police after the complaint.

He said explained that he later took the matter the Magisterial Court in Paynesville, after which his son-in law came with his lawyer, pleading not to go to court but he Roberts could take responsibility of the medical treatment.

Mr. Nuah noted that since 2016 he has been living in a compound with four houses constructed by his daughter, and there has been no personal problem between him and his son-in law up to that action.

Mr. Nuah said he reported what happened to his daughter in the United States.

“Now, I am seeking for justice and my daughter who is in the states also backing me to take him to count, since they thing happen I can sleep at night, I visited the eye clinic for checkup and I was ask to return, went to JFK but doctors advise me to do an X-ray but I can do it now due to the pain in the head, chest and nick my pressure went up and Mr. Roberts has left the compound and refuse to treat me. Now I can sleep at night,’’ Mr. Nuah continued.

‘’I am seeking for justice, I need the rightful authorities to come in and have me rescue and be treated fairly by giving justice,’’ he concluded.

But Nuah’s son-in-law, Mr. Roberts believes that his father in-law’s action was prompted by his wife, who intended to get him for the property,” the former Liberian government official said.

‘’John took his radio and hit it on my face, I started bleeding on my face and hold my penny’s it was in the time I hit him in order to defend myself  I put my fingers in his eyes. He looks weak but act evil,” Mr. Roberts explained.

Mr. Roberts admitted of giving his father in-law twenty five United States dollars for treatment, which the old man also admitted to.

According to Roberts, there is a serious marital problem between him and his wife, something he believed is the cause of the current conflict between the two families.

I was planning to leave the house before this thing happen. I am not fighting my wife for property, if she want it let her take it,’’ he concluded.

Meanwhile the Uncle of old man Nuah’s daughter, Joyce Tobasi, Joe Tobasi wants Mr.  Roberts take responsibility for his action and have the old man treated.

According to Mr. Tobasi, old man Nuah is seriously ill and bleeding from his nose and ear, something that is affecting him on a daily basis.
