As the world observed World Day against Statelessness this month, the United Nations estimates that more than 15 million people are without nationality or citizenship in the World.
In addition to that, many more are at risk of being stateless due to the lack of preventive measures I e. awareness on causes and prevention, birth registration and discriminatory nationality laws against women, etc
Each year, since 2014, the World has observed the World Day against Statelessness on November 4 to bring awareness and provoke action on ending Statelessness in the world.
The UN estimates that more than one million people are without nationality in Africa.
According to Bishop Kortu Brown, Church Aid Inc, has led efforts in Liberia to bring awareness to the issue and to initiate actions to prevent Statelessness including the registration of more than 20,000 (Twenty Thousand) Birth Certificates to under 12 year-old children in more than 6 counties across the country.
“Today, we call on faith and civic leaders, and people of Goodwill to join in praying for people affected by Statelessness around the world and for this year’s local Observance,” said Bishop Brown.
The local observance on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 began in Ghonkpaye – Arthington, rural Montserrado County.
