Police in Liberia’s southern Grand Bassa County have arrested a 34-year-old man said to be impersonating as a personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).
Mr. Soko Sacko was arrested early this week at the Owensgrove Check Point in District One, according to police in the county.
Police Commander Siakor Freeman told the local Magic FM community radio in Buchanan that the man was arrested with a single barrel gun and well dressed in AFL uniform.
Commander Freeman said Soko, who claimed to be a member of the Armed Forces of Liberia, was arrested because he never had an identification card.
In an interview with the Commander of the Ownesgrove Check Point,. Abraham B. Mandehdou, he said the man told him that his AFL batch number is 64 while his ID number is 032, but were not available for viewing.
“The man alleged that he came from Bravo Plantoon of the Armed Forces of Liberia but whether he came from the Camp Keselley Military Camp or Jackson Barrack was not cleared by him,” the Ownesgrove Police Commander stated.
He further alleged that his AFL Company Commander is one U S Mulbah, stating that he signed a contract with the Liberian government in 2015.
The alleged AFL imposter is said to have from Rivercess County and was in route to Monrovia.
“The tyre of the Maroon Baja Motorbikehe which he was riding got flat while trying to cross the check point, that was how he was arrested by our officer,” Commander Mandehdou said.
The Ownesgrove Commander said that the man had in his possession three voter cards bearing three different names with one photo.
The names on the voter cards are Abraham Sackor, Soko Sackor and Sackor Jalloh.
Meanwhile, the Grand Bassa County Police Commander said that the man has since been transferred to the Headquarters of the Liberia National Police in Monrovia for further investigation.
Over the years, there have been series of incidents where people have gone about impersonating either as soldiers or members of the security forces.
