The Executive Mansion says in a caption posted on a video on the Mansion’s official Facebook page: “President Boakai takes guided tour of the much talked about Mano River Union (MRU) Center for Regional Peace and Development which is under construction in Foya, Lofa County, to access progress.”
This is a project that the Unity Party government of President Boakai started in maximum secrecy with its officials initially flip-flopping on what really this huge complex is, who’s funding it? Its purpose? Etc. After pictures emerged earlier this year and figures put at US$10 million as the cost of what the government now says is the “Mano River Union (MRU) Regional Peace and Development Center”, the Ministry of Information and government officially broke silence by saying the construction cost is over US$6M, an explanation that raised more questions last week to further the earlier conflicting and incoherent messaging coming from both the Executive Mansion and the Information Ministry.
To add to the controversy surrounding a project that is reportedly nearing completion. The Liberian leader’s latest visit and tour of the Foya complex will only raise more questions, as this news outlet raised in an analysis last week. The President is also Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia. NEWS ANALYSIS: More Questions Than Answers, As Boakai Gov’t Breaks Silence On Multi-Million Foya Project – News Public Trust
