HARPER, Liberia- Less than 6 months to October 10 presidential and legislative elections, Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor has admitted that the roads in southeastern Liberia are bad, to say the least, describing the situation as a major challenge.

Madam Taylor, who is Vice Standard Bearer of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) of President George Manneh Weah, was speaking in an interview with Journalists in Harper recently.

Weah and his CDC, who have been in office for nearly six years now, have over the period beat their chests and boasted that his regime has rehabilitated more kilometers of roads than any other government in Liberia’s history, branding the footballing president as “Bad Road Medicine”.

The Liberian President recently visited the area on what many saw as a pre-campaigning trip.

Before her departure, VP Taylor told the people of Maryland County that an arrangement of US$ 5 million has been made by the Liberia Government aimed at speedily building the roads, and is already in progress.

She however, promised government’s commitment to those who have been affected in any way by water transportation across the country. It can be recalled earlier 2022, several Liberians lost their lives and properties through water transportations.

According to the Vice President, many young Liberians are for the first time learning massively, but there is a need for more educational scholarships for females, other necessary equipment for learning in schools and universities across the country.

“The most critical thing that I see is the condition of the roads, and I thank God that an arrangement of 5m USD has been made by the Liberian government which is currently in progress. Government has promised those who got affected by the ship that something will be provided for them to start their livelihoods. And more besides, many young Liberians are learning, it is for the first time, and it is through this government, but, we have noticed the need for more scholarships and additional learning facilities,” VP Taylor said.

Meanwhile, Vice President Jowel Howard-Taylor stressed that the Liberian Government is concentrating on opening the country’s economy at every level, describing the ports of Buchanna, Sinoe and Harper as vital gateways for transportations and economic benefits to Liberia.

“We are concentrating on opening our economic at every level, the ports are the gateways to our IN and OUT of the country easily, providing transportations and economic benefits. The ports of Buchanna, Sinoe and Harper, are very important to us. Other Vice Presidents didn’t do, but I believe as Vice President, you are to follow the development and the status of the country’s progress,” VP Taylor added.
