The king maker in Liberia’s northeastern Nimba County Senator Prince Johnson has told the people of the vote-rich county to vote the ruling Unity Party (UP) out of power in the November 7 runoff and elect George Weah of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).

Out of the 2.1 million registered voters across Liberia, Nimba accounts for 241,903 representing 13% in the 2017 elections. For the past three presidential elections he has contested in Nimba, Senator Johnson taking the lion share of all the votes.

Johnson, leader of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), had earlier publically endorsed the candidacy of the CDC leader in the second round of election. He came fourth in the first round of the October 20, 2017 presidential election,

The Nimba County Senator was speaking over the weekend when he took George Weah on a campaign trail in the county, ahead of next week’s runoff expected to take place between the CDC and the ruling UP of incumbent Vice President Joseph Boakai.

Hundreds of people attended various campaign rallies in the commercial city of Ganta, the provincial capital, Sanniquellie and other towns in Nimba County, while reports say there were others who protested against Senator Johnson’s decision to endorse Weah.

Referred to as the political god father of Nimba, Johnson described the soccer legend-turned politician as “the best alternative for Liberia.”

According to Prince Johnson, the days of massive corruption is over and as such Nimbians should vote the CDC presidential candidate.

He revealed that Weah is a son of Nimba who was born in the Gbei-Doru region.

For his part, Senator Weah thanked Nimbians for voting him during the first round and called on all Liberians by to retire the Unity Party-led government and Amb Boakai by voting them out of power on November 7.
