Cestoss, Liberia –Ahead of a World Bank Grant project, a training for 89 public school principals and their PTA chairpersons is underway in Cesstos, the capital City of Rivercess County in southeastern Liberia.
The training, which started on Monday, July 1, 2019, will run for four days. And it is facilitated by the Ministry of Education and it is targeting 187 persons.
The training is being conducted ahead of the reintroduction the School Grant supported by the World Bank.
The 187 persons include public school principals and Parents Teachers Association (PTA) Chairpersons, five District Education Officers from the five school districts of Rivercess, the County Education Officer and three staff from the CEO office.
Mr. Acquay K. Kamara, Director of Procurement at the Ministry of Education and head of delegation said the Cesstos training will deal with three main components- Administrative, Procurement and financial.
The school grant is a program supported by the World Banks and it helps provide financial support to schools run by government in purchasing teaching and non-teaching materials for public schools.
Before it was abolished some four years ago, the school grant provided support to all government schools from kindergarten to grade 9th across Liberia.
But according to Mr. Kamara, the new School Grant will only cover government schools that have early childhood components.
He said before it was reintroduced, the early childhood division at the ministry of Education did a survey and found out that there was a need to do more investment in the area of early childhood development.
The three day training which got underway Monday is bringing together a principal and a PTA chair from 89 pre-grade public schools in Rivercess.
According to Mr. Acquay Kamara, the new school grant will take effect at the beginning of the 2019/2020 school year.
