Refuge Place NGO On Awareness Campaign To Fight COVID-19 Spread

A local nongovernmental organization, the Refuge Place International, has launched a massive campaign aimed at curbing the spread of the new variance of Coronavirus in Liberia.

As a part of the intervention, the RPL has produced several thousand nose marks, procured dozens of hand washing buckets, recorded radio jingles and printed flyers for   distribution to several communities in the Township of Johnson and its environs.

Speaking at the launch of the Coronavirus response organized by the Refuge Place International in the Township of Johnsonville, the Chief of Office Staff of the organization, disclosed that the Chief Executive Officer of the RPI, Dr. Masoka Fallah, being a public health expert, believes that  one of the best ways in preventing spread of the corona virus is by taking awareness on the disease to the people.

Mrs.  Franetta Nyanford noted that   Dr. Fallah is of the opinion that working with the communities will better help in curbing the spread of the corona virus in the country

The Refuge Place International Chief of Staff explained that most of the materials including soap and face masks were produced by residents as a means of empowering the communities.

She explained that the former Director General of the National Public Health of Liberia has mobilized financial resources from his friends, former peacecorps who served in Liberia and the university he graduated and sent them back for the usage of the Liberian people.

Madam Nyanford disclosed that the RPI began its fight against the corona virus with the distribution of over 100 oxygen regulators, food, hand washing buckets and cartoons of soap to the Ministry of Health for hospitals in rural Liberia, the Saint Joseph Catholic Hospital, the ELWA Hospital , the John F Kennedy Hospital and the Star Base Hospitals.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Health, a member of the Communication Team of the Incident Management System, Chester Smith thanked the management of the Refuge Place International for buttressing the government on the fight against the spread of corona virus in the country

According to him, Dr. Mosoka Fallah , then Director General of the National Public Health Institute , was the first person to use his personal fund in assisting the Incident Management Team in combating the spread of corona virus in Liberia

He thanked Dr. Mosoka Fallah on behalf of the Ministry of Health for the initiative demonstrated in combating the corona virus despite his absent in the country

The indoor activities were followed by the distribution of face marks, hand watching buckets at various junctions in the Township of Johnsonville, schools, businesses, churches and Mosques in the area

The program, which held at the RPI Health Center was graced by a cross session of community leaders, youths and women groups, elders among others.
