Nimba County electoral districts #7 Representative Roger Swy Domah has stressed the need for a transparency in the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic in Liberia.
Speaking to Journalists in Liberia’s central city of Gbarnga recently, Rep. Domah said he strongly believes that there are some individuals in the country that are diverting or intending to divert public funds intended to fight against COVID-19 across the country.
“If you are used to getting or want to get rich from crisis, slow down because disgrace is hanging right around here. This deathly disease in our country shouldn’t be used as an opportunity for anyone to get rich,” the Nimba County District #7 Representative asserted.
He observed that in the past, people that should have been working to fight EBOLA were engaged in acts of insincerity by converting materials or funds to their personal interest. But he said this should not be tolerated in the ongoing Coronavirus fight.
So far, the virus has killed twenty people in Liberia, with 212 confirmed cases.
“I am just urging those individuals who wanting to killed or that are killing our people to stop and focus fighting this virus. Obviously there are people who will want to divert funding intended for the fight into their own use,” Rep. Domah stated.
The Nimba County Lawmaker further noted that it is also disappointing to see policy markers today engaging in acts that has the propensity to undermine the fight against the killer virus that continues to create hardships for ordinary citizens across the Country.
Rep. Domah wants everyone come together in fighting the Covid-19. The lawmaker comments come days after report of several individuals were arrested charged and sent to court in Bong County for allegedly stealing anti-coronavirus materials by the Liberia National Police.
Despite the numerous economic challenges facing the Country, Rep. Domah believes that when funds intended for COVID-19 are used wisely, Liberia won’t recall many cases.
There is a need to make sure Healthcare workers be prioritized in the fight against Covid-19, he stressed.
“And I am sure that together with the awareness and taking care of our healthcare workers we will be able to achieve our desired goal,” the Nimba Lawmaker furthered.
Rep. Domah then called on Liberians to let go of politics on this issue and focus on the observance of all health protocols that are required to contain, combat and curtail the Coronavirus disease in Liberia.
“Observe the health protocols, in a country where state of emergency or lockdown or any restriction is introduced, follow the conditions outlined and stay safe, because we need you tomorrow and always,” Rep. Domah encouraged citizens.
