Feud within the National Union of Organizations of the Disabled (NUOD has deepened.
A group of aggrieved members of NUOD has issued a twelve-count resolution impeaching the organization’s President, Peter Flomo, with immediate effect.
NUOD serves as the umbrella body representing organizations of persons with disabilities across Liberia.
Established in 1995, the organization advocates for the rights, welfare, and inclusion of persons with disabilities in national development processes.
According to the resolution, the aggrieved members accused Mr. Flomo of dissolving member organizations of NUOD, disregarding the union’s bylaws and constitution, and allegedly requesting kickbacks.
The members contend that these actions undermine the integrity and democratic principles of the organization.
Presenting the statement on behalf of the group, Secretary Lloydson G. Flomo said the decision was taken in accordance with the constitution of NUOD and was intended to restore stability, accountability, and proper governance within the institution.
“This action is necessary for the safety, sanity, and preservation of NUOD,” the statement noted.
Receiving the resolution on behalf of the aggrieved members, Vice President for Administration Melvin Harding accepted the document and assured the group that the leadership would carefully review the allegations and provide a response within seven days.
Mr. Harding further called on all members to remain peaceful and law-abiding while the leadership examines the issues raised and seeks an appropriate resolution to the matter.
The development marks a significant challenge for the leadership of NUOD as members seek redress over concerns relating to governance and adherence to the organization’s constitutional framework.
