River Gee County Superintendent Philip Q. Nyenuh is calling for patience, in the face of the economic challenges confronting Liberia.

Mr. Nyenuh believes that with the stringent measures being put in place by President Weah and team, things will soon improve for the people of Liberia.

“There is no question about the kind of times we are in. These are difficult times which principally is not due to President Weah’s making”, the local government official said in an interview with www.newspublictrust on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 in Monrovia.

The head of this southeastern County further stated that as former President Sirleaf was leaving office, the signs were already there that the Liberian economy would take a downward turn.

Superintendent Nyenuh said what is worth reflecting on is the fact that UNMIL was already winding down. “Monies paid to its troops were significant enough to put a lot of money in circulation.”

The UNMIL drawdown, he said, coupled with the Ebola outbreak, only made matters worse.

Taking into consideration such factors, he said, one could only imagine the future resulting impact on the country’s economy.

Commenting on President George Weah’s recent visit to his county, the River Gee County Superintendent pointed out that it opened doors for more developments to come for his.

He used the occasion to comment on a life-changing experience for the people of Kanweaken, whose city is now bright at night.

On his recent visit to the region, President Weah ordered the installation of 200 solar panels in Kanweaken and strongly criticized the building that has been used for years as the Presidential palace in Fish Town.

The President ordered the installation of the street lights, because he said the commercial town remained in darkness since his last visit to Kanweaken and there has been no significant improvement there.

Superintendent Nyenuh noted that said residents were enjoying the development and can now stay out to as long as they want during night hours without any fears over insecurity.

Besides, he said the road between Fish Town and Jaebroken which had been closed for many years has been reopened through the Swedish International Development Agency‘s (SIDA) intervention after being engaged by President Weah.

“People are overjoyed, as the president touched lives in the way he did,” the the head of River Gee County added.
