Another Blind Institution, the Liberian School of the Blind located in Brewerville outside Monrovia has received some food items from an NGO, Survivors’ Truths Liberia.

Making the presentation over the weekend, a member of the Board, Ade Wede Kekuleh expressed joy at the opportunity to be able to reach out to other Liberians during this crucial time.

She said it is Survivors’ Truths small way of identifying with fellow Liberians, especially the physically challenged.

Executive Director Cooper M. Vuku also said, when people are told to adhere to a lockdown; it ultimately leads to the issue of survival. If people have the means of survival, they do not have to go out of their homes and risk contracting the virus and was there to buttress the efforts of the government. He said it is because of the search for food and basic needs that make people go out of their homes.

Receiving the items, the Dean of Students at the School of the Blind, Kelvin Beaquoi thanked Survivors’ Truths for the gesture, saying that his mother had told him there is no such thing as a small gift.

“A gift is not only about the item, but also the thought of love that goes along with it. Dean Beaquoi said, that Survivors’ Truths will single them out among many other schools working with the physically challenged is commendable, and highly appreciated. He hoped the weekend’s visit marked the beginning of a friendship and was not Survivors’ Truths last,” Mr. Beaquoi said.

A student of the school, Jonah Suah also narrated his ordeal. He said he became blind as a result of prolong illness and after serious medical efforts by his parent he finally got blind in 2007 when he was being promoted to the seventh grade. In the beginning, he was despondent and even attempted to take his own life.

But he thanked God for family and friends who kept counselling him. When asked his advice to others just finding themselves in the same situation, Jonah admonished them to be courageous; it is God that has everything.

He said it is not easy from the beginning, but once the condition is accepted, you learn to adapt.

The items donated included rice, oil, and assorted food seasoning.
