Montserrado County Senator Darius Dillon says he is committed to working with colleagues in ensuring a robust and transformed senate that places premium on the Liberian people’s interest in taking decisions that affect them.
The vocal opposition Liberty Party Senator, who recently annoyed some of his colleagues by branding the Senate as “spineless, rotten and corrupt,” said this has from time immemorial been the exception, rather than the norm.
“He said for too long the Liberian people’s hopes have been dashed due to ill-
fated decisions coming out of the august body.
“When you have a robust and reformed senate, the House of Representatives will conform. A robust senate will checkmate all ill-fated bills coming out of the House of Representatives and make sure they conform and translate to the good of the people.
Sen. DillonHe said as far as living memory recalls, this era has seen the first instance since the foundation of this country where the senate has passed a budget based on resolution.
“We’ve got to do something to change this country. This country can change. What kind of country is this where older folks that have retired or are retiring have no sense of economic comfort or security? Where babies have no future, and the youth have no sense of direction,” he rhetorically asked.
He has rejected his categorization by some colleagues as a hostile person. This followed series of harsh criticisms of fellow lawmakers by Dillion in recent time, with some vowing to remove him as senator.
Sen. Dillion told reporters that his verbal outbursts have been out of what he terms “righteous anger” and that he’s ready to cooperate with colleagues in reforming the senate into a robust one.
