Several Feared Dead At Gbinipea Gold Mine In Liberia’s Nimba County

SANNIQUELLIE, Liberia-Insiders at the Gbainipea illicit Gold mine in Tappita district situated in the northeastern Nimba County have reported at least another new death at the Gold mines.

The insiders told www.newspublictrust.com at the controversial gold mine that over 10 persons have gone missing since Monday July 20, 2020, thus triggering fears that some of them are dead. Many months ago, disaster struck this identical mine, when a number of persons lost their lives in mudslide.

The insiders reported that they are afraid to openly discuss or report the issue to community dwellers, because they have been threatened by their friends in the gold mines.

‘’Our friends gold miners are closing the mock slide and hoods because of the missing people,’’ the insiders said.

They indicated that, since Monday, July 20, 2020, they have not seen the missing gold miners.

‘’We are afraid to lengthily gave you the information on grounds that the gold mine is now vulnerable.’’

They described the Gbainipea Gold mine region as “no man’s land”.

As such everybody is doing their own thing.

The insiders maintained that the region has become a terrorist zone in Nimba where gold miners claim they are carrying shot-gun for self-defense.

The insiders fear death if their names are mentioned in the region.

On Tuesday, July 21, 2020, over 40 gold miners were seen closing a large hole, which according the insiders are contained those miners who went missing weeks again.

The illegal gold miners also threaten our reporter not to use any foreigner gadgets on the mine.

The insiders further emphasized that the Gbainipea Gold mine has increasingly turned violent, because government and her partners have refused to provide security for the people and the mine.
