Fresh reports from Bamballa, Porkpa District in Liberia’s western Grand Cape Mount County say several arrests have been made by the joint security led by the Liberian National Police in the electoral violence between rival supporters of the ruling CDC and the opposition CPP
CPP Simon Taylor and some supporters of CDC candidate Victor Watson were Saturday involved in serious violence, with a number of persons being wounded.
However, the exact number and identities of those arrested is not yet known by this news outlet.
Three security officers assigned at the checkpoint in Bamballa confirmed seeing the blaze from the burning vehicles.
But they were unable to reach there because they are not armed and more besides they were only three officers assigned at the check point.
The checkpoint is positioned around the commissioner’s compound and it is three- minute walk from the commissioner compound where the incident occurred.
According to one report, the electoral violence began at about 6pm on Saturday December 5, 2020, and intensified later, thereby leaving residents of said district running into bushes to save their lives.
Another report says that the CPP candidate Simeon Taylor allegedly tried to prevent some registered voters of incumbent Senator Victor Watson who were crossing over the border from neighbouring Sierra Leone to Liberia Saturday evening to participate in the pending Elections.
But it true this yet to be established as Investigation is ongoing.
As reported by other media institutions that Grand Cape Mount County District #1 Representative Bob sheriff’s house was set at ablaze, it has turned out to be false, although his home was badly damaged by stones and others weapons.
It has been established that the CPP candidate’s vehicles were set ablaze and there was gun fire, with several locals sustaining wounds, with few said to have come from bullets.
In another development, Paramount Chief Jameyaru Watson of Porkpa District has alleged that the LNP Commander in the district failed to protect her and her home after some men of Senator Victor Watson attempted to rape her.
Paramount Chief Jamwyatu Watson said, she was in the cassavas patch on the night of the incident but she could hear the voices of men looking for her to rape her and She slept in the bush. This Report was compiled by Garmah Never Lomo
