Liberian Board for Nursing and Midwifery breaks grounds for new home

The Liberian Board for Nursing and Midwifery (LBNM) says it is tired of paying rental feels and has broken grounds for the construction of its National Headquarters.

The proposed home of the institution is valued over half of million United States Dollars is located in Slakpawien on the Monrovia-Roberts field Highway.

Since the institution was established in 1948, it has been renting from one place to the other, but the LBNM said it has reached the point to say good bye to the issue of paying rental fees. The services of the ADI Construction Company has been to constructed a new headquarters for the group on two acres of land.

According to the Chairperson of Liberian Board for Nursing and Midwifery (LBNM), Humphrey Gibbs Loweal, when the project is completed, it will have shared benefits by housing various offices, examinees and save a huge cost for other development initiatives of (LBNM).

“As we all know that LBNM and you key stakeholders share profound traditional friendship and enjoy a time honored history of cooperation in the area of support, so we have called you this afternoon to help LBNM build this multi-purpose complex through your contributions in cash and kind”, Mr. Loweal stated.

Speaking over the weekend, the LBNM Board Chairperson described the event as a momentous occasion that marks the commencement of the construction of the first multi-purpose complex of the Liberian Board for Nursing and Midwifery (LBNM) in the history of Liberia.

Mr. Loweal: “In Ephesians 3:8 Paul says God can do immensely more than we have asked Him. He can do great more than we have even thought of asking Him to do. Do you know what Paul is saying? Paul is telling you to take your contributions and multiply them by ten, and then by one hundred, and then by one thousand and support this worthwhile project”.

Also speaking, the President of Seventh Day Adventist University of West Africa, Emmanuel G. M. Kollie, praised the Liberian Board for Nursing and Midwifery for such a worthy venture as it will bring proud not only to the entity by Liberia.

Dr. Kollie said many of times it beats his imagination to see how organizations in other countries in the sub – region are  moving ahead but when it comes to Liberia it is something different and called on the heads of organizations to begin owning their own properties like what LBNM is demonstrating here today.

“For recent, things are gradually changing as Liberians are transitioning from rented building to owning their own properties which is a good thing to transform the country”, he stated.

He thanked members of Liberian Broad for Nursing andMidwifery and prayed that the Almighty God will make provisions for the completion of the project and pledged his unflinching support to the initiative.

For her part, the Former Chairperson of the Liberian Board for Nursing and Midwifery (LBNM), Cecelia Morris, said her long awaited dream and aspiration for the entity to have its home headquarters has become a reality.

“I am today, the happier person because after years of trying to get to this point was challenging but with the efforts and collaboration all of the organization members we are where we want our beloved LBNM to go, as we are breaking grounds for the construction work to begin”, Madam Morris joyfully pointed out.

Madam Morris disclosed that she has written a book highlighting activities of LBNM which is expected to be released December this year and some proceeds from it will go directly to the construct of the multi – purpose headquarters.

Meanwhile, an employee of the ADI Contractors Incorporated that is constructing the LBNM Headquarters, Francis Coleman, said the company committed fulfilling it said of the agreement.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Nursing and Midwifery Training Schools, the Liberia Nurses Association, the Liberia Midwives Association including representatives from several hospitals and health centers, among others.

Those institutions through their respective representatives pledge their support to project, terming it as a big positive achievement in the history of the entity.

As part of the Liberia Board for Nursing and Midwifery plans to generate funds for the project it embarked on the holding annual Professional and Ethics Contest.

Speaking at the two events held at the Monrovia City Hall, LBNM Registrar, Cecelia Kpangbala Flomo the fund was to be used to finance the construction of the LBNM Headquarters project to ensure the smooth operation of the organization.

The Liberian Board for Nursing and Midwifery was established in 1947 and was later enacted into law in 1948 and has being in existence for a little of 70 years.

LBNM has the oversight responsibilities of regulating nursing and midwifery practice and training of nurses and midwives across the country.
