Tragedy At LAC In Grand Bassa: Worker Grinds To Death In Rubber Processing Machine

Reports from the Liberia Agriculture Company (LAC) in Wee Statutory District, Grand Bassa County says one of the company’s workers grind to pieces by a rubber processing machine.

This area is situated over 70 miles from Monrovia and LAC is one of the oldest and bigger rubber plantations in Liberia. The tragedy is said to have occurred Friday night (August 20, 2021.

And the victim is identified as Emmanuel Joe, who is believed to be in his middle 30s.

Joe, who was a Mechanic at LAC, met his death at between 11Pm to 12 am after the machine used to grind the raw rubber went off, while he was trying to sort out a problem it had experience that he was called in to solve.

According to information gathered, while the deceased was in the process of trying to fix the machine, the tragedy occurred. Photo of the gruesome scene is available to this news outlet but it is extremely graphic to be  published.

A co-worker, who never knew that he was servicing that particular machine, was said to have switched it on, allegedly causing the deceased to summersault and went directly into the mouth of that machine, thus grinding him to pieces.

Meanwhile, the company is yet to speak on the matter.

LAC’s Communication Officer has so far not commented on the latest development.

In Monrovia earlier this week, several workers sustained serious burn at the Sethi Brothers steel factory in the Gardnersville suburb of Monrovia in a factory fire incident. Due to the severity of the burn, three of the workers are said to have been airlifted for advanced medical treatment in Ghana. Report by Garmah Never Lomo
