For Immediate Release

Monrovia, March 12, 2023: The Government of Liberia categorically condemns a social media post threatening the life of Ambassador Josephine Nkrumah, Representative of the ECOWAS Commission in Liberia by an individual who calls himself “Bill Carson”.

The Government described the comment as reckless and irresponsible, and that it demonstrates the author’s careless use of social media, instead of positively contributing to current affairs and other trending issues.

At a meeting on Friday, March 10, involving the Diplomatic Corps and the Government of Liberia, Foreign Minister Dee- Maxwell Saah Kemayah Sr assured the Representatives of the International Community in Liberia of their safety, including that of the Ecowas Ambassador Nkrumah. He expressed President George M Weah’s strong indignation of the reckless Facebook comment against the life of the Ecowas Ambassador, saying that the government is leaving no stone unturned in the ongoing investigation of the threat.

Providing updates on the investigation conducted so far, Justice Minister Frank Musah Dean Jr told the International Partners during the meeting that so far, a credible lead has been established and efforts are underway to bring the culprit to book. The Attorney General expressed regret over the situation and added that the needed security measures to ensure the safety of the Ecowas Ambassador are being taken.

The Diplomatic Corps expressed appreciation to Foreign Minister Kemayah for the assurance and the organization of the meeting, as well as to Justice Minister Dean, Information Minister, Ledgerhood J. Rennie, Assistant NSA Director Edward Sharpe and Liberia National Police Deputy Inspector-General for Operation Marvin Sackor for their participation and updates on the investigation.

Meanwhile, the diplomatic corps has recognized the efforts of the Government of Liberia in ensuring the sustenance of a peaceful and secured environment in Liberia as the country moves towards General and Presidential elections in October.
