Tragedy In Margibi County: Police Investigate Alleged Murder Of An Infant

BARCLAY FARM, LOWER MARGIBI, Liberia– Tragedy has struck Cotton Tree community here in Margibi County, with a six-month-old baby girl allegedly being murdered.

Authorities of the Liberia National Police are investigating the suspected murder of the infant whose body was discovered in an unfinished building in the Cotton Tree Community on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

The Police confirmed that the Criminal Services Division (CSD) office received a call at approximately 5:45 PM from Officer-in-Charge, Inspector Harrial Flomo, reporting the discovery of an unconscious child.

Detective Sergeant Arthur D. Johnson was immediately dispatched to the scene alongside Inspector Flomo and operations personnel.

At the scene, family members identified the deceased as Beatrice Langar, an infant who was reported missing three days prior to the discovery of her corpse. The child’s mother, Sara Cooper, age 22, is a resident of Barclay’s Farm Community, provided a formal statement to investigators.

According to Ms. Cooper’s account, the father of the child, Lester D. Langar, 30, arrived at her mother’s residence in Barclay’s Farm on the evening of Tuesday, January 19, 2026, at approximately 10:00 PM.

After a verbal altercation during which he allegedly insulted Ms. Cooper, Mr. Langar forcibly took the infant, Beatrice, and left for an unknown destination. The child had not been seen since.

Following the discovery, a fifteen-member coroner’s jury was constituted to conduct an initial examination of the body. The jury returned a unanimous verdict, indicating evidence of foul play.

Their preliminary findings suggest that the infant’s head had been tampered with, allegedly from being struck against an object, and her tongue had also been interfered with.

The body of the baby girl was subsequently released to the family and signed for by her grandmother for preservation, pending further official procedures.

A full scale investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

Police are trying to locate and apprehend the father, Lester D. Langar, who is currently being sought for questioning.

The police are calling on anyone with information regarding Mr. Langar’s whereabouts to come forward or provide details concerning this case. The  nearest police depot or the Criminal Services Division can be contacted, the police said.
