Truck Runs Into A Crowd In School Gala Day Parade, Killing 3 Persons And Injuring 7

Police Investigating Truck Operator

Three persons were killed over the weekend and seven others injured in the Careysburg area on the Monrovia-Kakata highway after a truck ran into a crowd of students and others during their school’s gala day parade, the Liberia National Police says.

Police say their investigation has established that the truck was moving towards Mount Barclay when it ran into a crowd of bystanders who were witnessing the parade, thus resulting to the injuries of about Ten (10) persons, three of whom were pronounced dead upon arrival at a medical facility. Seven of the accident victims are being treated at the Fredai Health center and Remedy Clinic.

According to a press release from the LNP, the accident happened on May 31, 2024 and the driver of the truck was later arrested and is investigating the operator of a blue Renault truck, Joseph Sao who was involved in a tragic road traffic accident at the LMDI Junction along the Careysburg-Mount Barclay Highway.

According to preliminary traffic investigation report, the tragic accident occurred on Friday, May 31, 2024 about 12noon when the Mount Gilead Foundation School located in Careysburg Community was hosting her 1st Gala anniversary program parade.

Police say the Blue Renault Truck involved in the tragic accident with plate number T5455 is now in the custody of the Police, while the police said the proprietor of the Mount Gilead Foundation School, Samuel Galamue, 44, is aiding the Police in the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, the Liberia National Police expressed its heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families and urged the public to remain calm as the matter is being investigated
