HARPER, Liberia- The Center for Gender and Development at the state owned William V S Tubman University (TU) in Liberia’s southeastern Maryland County says it will do all it can to put gender at the heart of the university’s programs.
Harper is situated 403 kilometers or 250 miles from the Liberian capital, Monrovia.
The Coordinator of the Center, Ade Elliot-Ledlum also vowed to make health training institutions gender-responsive, by so doing promoting conditions of admission and performance.
“Tubman University is now becoming more gender sensitive than ever before,” he said.
TU is the only public university outside Monrovia, which is training health workers and other professionals in southeastern Liberia.
The reactivation of the gender development aspect of its programs was made possible with support from the German Technical Cooperation (Giz).
The university’s administration is finding ways to include more women where there are gender imbalances, with the department currently working to mainstream gender in its academic course work.
Key decisions taken as part of the gender action plan is to reactivate the gender center and position are to create awareness on gender, as well as develop gender policy at the university.
