Go Ahead With Painting Of UL Campuses In SUP Colors, Target LNP HQ

‎CAPITOL HILL, Monrovia — The campus-based Students Unification Party (SUP) at the University of Liberia (UL) has announced a 90-day campaign to repaint the  three campuses of the state owned University–Capitol Hill, Fendell and Sinje in its red, green, and black party’s official colors.

The SUP students cited what it describes as the government’s failure to address the deteriorating appearance of the UL campuses.‎

‎The painting using SUP colorsis has already commenced at the Graduate School Building on the Capitol Hill campus, where SUP members began repainting earlier this week.

According to SUP, their mve is a form of protest following repeated but unsuccessful appeals to authorities to repaint the campuses using the university’s official colors.‎

‎Speaking to reporters, SUP Chairman Sylvester Wheeler said the choice of colors is symbolic and reflects the party’s longstanding stance on student advocacy and institutional accountability. He emphasized that the campaign will continue across all three campuses within the stated 90-day timeframe.

‎In a further escalation, SUP also announced plans to repaint the headquarters of the Liberia National Police (LNP), a move the party says is intended to draw national attention to what it calls government neglect of public institutions, particularly the country’s only state-run University.‎

‎According to information available, the University of Liberia’s budget allocation increased from approximately US$33 million to US$40 million, an increment of about US$7 million.

The increase was intended to support campus maintenance, academic operations, and infrastructure improvements across the university’s three campuses. However, students argue that despite the additional funding, visible improvements particularly in painting and basic upkeep remain limited.
