UMC Bishop Quire Urges Newly Inducted Cleric: ‘Lead With Humility, Faith & Servant’s Heart’

As He Inducts Grand Bassa District Superintendent

BUCHANAN, Liberia — The Resident Bishop of the Liberia Episcopal Area of the United Methodist Church, Bishop Samuel J. Quire Jr., has officially inducted Rev. Samuel E. T. Hodges as Superintendent of the Grand Bassa District Conference, Liberia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Rev. Hodges succeeds Rev. Dr. Cllr. Lawrence K. Bropleh and assumes responsibility for providing spiritual and administrative leadership to the district at a critical time in its growth and development.

During the induction ceremony, Bishop Quire admonished the newly inducted Superintendent to lead with humility, faith, and a servant’s heart.

“If you submit yourself to God, He will use you and lift you up. Lead with hope and joy, not with pride or a heavy heart,” the UMC Bishop emphasized.

In his induction speech, Rev. Hodges expressed gratitude to God, the Bishop, and the Liberia Annual Conference for the confidence reposed in him. He described his new role not as a position of honor, but as a call to servant leadership.

“I come to serve, to walk with you, and to labor together for the growth of the Church and the glory of God,” he declared.

Rev. Hodges outlined an ambitious Five-Year Strategic Vision (2026–2031) aimed at strengthening the district. His priorities include promoting spiritual growth and evangelism, empowering youth through education, and completing the long-awaited district parsonage within the first three years.

He also emphasized strengthening visitation ministries, expanding agricultural development on the district’s 300 acres of land, and promoting leadership development and accountability. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of financial stewardship and deeper community engagement as key pillars for sustainable growth.

Rev. Hodges urged clergy and laity alike to take ownership of the vision.

“This vision cannot be accomplished by one person alone. It requires all of us working together in unity,” he said.

The induction marks a renewed commitment to advancing God’s mission in Grand Bassa and was attended by Rev.Denmark Sunshine Senior Pastor,Duazon UMC,Rev.Aruther I.Grimes, District Superintendent Kakata-Farmington District Conference, Fth.Mason Chukpue, Lay Leader Duazon UMC,with both leadership and members called to work together for transformation and progress.
