US State Department funds program to minimize local disputes in Liberia

In efforts to continuously build peace in the country, a program on the Mitigating Local Disputes in Liberia (MLDL) has been holding a refresher training on County Security Mechanism in Sanniquellie City, Nimba County in northeastern Liberia.

Funded by the U. S Department of State, the program is being implemented by the KAZIEN COMPANY in the country.

The program promotes peace amongst stakeholders at the local and national levels through District Security Council and County Security Mechanism.

The U.S Department of State commenced supporting the Liberia Government  Mitigating Local Disputes Program through the KAZIEN COMPANY  since 2012 in four of Liberia’s  15 counties; Lofa, Bong, Nimba and Grand Gedeh.

The two days rehearsal training on County Security Mechanism  was  attended by over seventy (70) participants drawn from Nimba’s  three districts; Sanniquellie Mah,  Gbehlay-Geh and Bain-Garr respectively .

Speaking to the local community Radio Sehnwai in Sanniquellie on Tuesday,  Thomas Q. Suah Nimba MLDL Program Coordinator said security is everyone business.

As such, he said that the involvement of community leaders in the County Security Mechanism refresher training stands to make a better security apparatus working relationship with the community dwellers in the county.

According to Mr. Suah, the County Security Mechanism rehearsal training covers human security, industrial safety, traffic rules and regulations, protection of the law, access to justice, protection and preservation of human rights amongst others.

The Program Coordinator of the mitigating local dispute in Nimba asserted that human security and mitigating conflicts among community residents is at the heart of the Liberia Mitigating Local Disputes Program.
