US$10K EU-funded Grand Kru Service Center re-dedicated

Barclayville, Grand Kru, Liberia- The Superintendent of the Southeastern Grand Kru County has re-dedicated the County Service Center constructed through a European Union grant Contribution.

The EU has facilitated the actualization of the Service Centers in eight counties in Liberia. Locals in Grand Kru will be able to process their Business registration, Deeds Registration, Zoning and land use permit, ECOWAS alien work permit, Birth Certificate, Driver Licenses, Traditional and Western Marriage certificates, among other things.

It has been carried out under the Liberia Decentralization support program managed by United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Liberia. Other partners include United States Agency for International Development (USAID), UMMIL and Government of Sweden.

This Service Center was constructed and dictated by the Liberian government and supporting partners in December 17, 2017. But the CSC suffered setback due to sub-standard work done by contractor hired, especially in the supply of electricity.  The re-dedication ceremony took place on Monday June 10, 2019 at the in the Grand Kru County’s capital, Barclayville.

The Center hosts Education, Health, Public Works, Commence, Labor, Revenue, Gender, Internal Affairs Ministries, among others. 

Grand Kru County Superintendent, Doris N. Ylatun praised the government and partners for the construction of the one-stop-shop center that will help in providing needed services to the People of the County .

She disclosed that the establishment of the County Service Center in Grand Kru is as the result of taking governance services closer to citizens and relieving the stress among people in accessing vital documents. Superintendent Ylatun said it will also help in reducing the financial burden on locals.

The Grand Kru County Superintendent urged citizens of the County to take ownership of the services that will be made available.

Madam Ylatun encouraged the county service center administrator Alexander Weah to create more awareness on the usage of the center in the County.

For his part, the County Service Center Coordinator, Alexander Jelleh Weah disclosed that the Center will provide specialized services that will be rolled out by government Line Ministries and Agencies. 

Meanwhile, the County Gender Coordinator Sarah Nyema, speaking on behalf of Ministries, said the establishment of the CSC demonstrates the government commitment to take services closer to people in rural communities in Liberia.
