Violent Rainstorm Hits Residents Of Gbalatuah, Bong County

GBARNGA, Liberia- A violent rainstorm that recently erupted in Gbalatuah, one of the biggest city in Zota District, Bong County has left behind a serious humanitarian situation, affecting more eight hundred residents of the community.

The storm disaster was triggered by torrential rainfall and lightning strikes that lasted for several hours before it subsided.

At least 300 houses reportedly got damaged as a result of the storm incident, with occupants forced to sleep in the open air after being made homeless. The storm occurred last Wednesday, June 17, 2020, but locals are still struggling to deal with the damage it left behind.

Public service delivery has also being hindered in the city due to the devastating consequences of the storm badly affected some public facilities including the Gbalatuah clinic in the area.

Speaking to Journalists in Gbalatuah, the Officer In Charge of the clinic in the area, Kindness Forkpa said they are currently finding its very difficult to cater to patients going at the clinic to seek treatments.

She also stated that several materials including stationaries got damaged at the result of the violent storm disaster.

Madam Forkpa added, “Since Wednesday June 17 to present, we are suffering from the rain. Patients who come here for treatment sit in the rain and sun.”

The Gbalatuah’s clinic OIC have meanwhile called on government particularly the Ministry of Health to swiftly intervene to ensure patients seeking treatments at the only health facility get the needed quality healthcare.

This Reporter, who visited the scene, was told that several other residents many of whom are children and the elderly got seriously injured.

The violent storm victims are appealing to the government of President George Manneh Weah and humanitarian organizations to quickly come to their aid.
