Consumers of locally produced drinking water in Liberia need to brace themselves for an increase in the price of the commodity, if producers convinces the authorities carry the price up.

Over 400 members of the Liberia Water Producers Association have threatened to stop the production of purified drinking water, unless there is government announces an increase in the sac of water.

Almost the entire country solely rely on locally packaged water in sacs for drinking on a daily basis.

Mohamed Kromah, the Vice President of the association disclosed in Monrovia on Wednesday that since the hike in the exchange rate between the United States Dollars to the Liberian Dollars, they are operating as a lost.

Kromah told this Reporter that by next week Tuesday, the decision to stop the production of water or increment in the price will be taken during a mass meeting of water producers.

He complained that because of the exchange rate, some of their members have dropped from the business.

The official of the Water Producers Association claimed that the government has given some Lebanese and Indian businesses in the water production sector tax break.

Kromah said this was happening while Liberians are made to pay big taxes regularly. Report by Augustine Octavius
