Ahead of the November 14 presidential runoff election between the two top contenders in the October 10, 2023 first round of voting, a wave of endorsement pronouncements are coming in for the incumbent President George Weah or the CDC and Joseph Boakai of the main opposition UP.

Newly elected Grand Bassa County Senator Gbehzhongar Findley and former Nimba County Senatorial candidate, Edith Gongloe Weh have given their backing to the ticket of President Weah in the November 14 runoff election.

Findley ran as an Independent candidate in the October 10 polls, after he had parted ways with the CDC, while Edith Gongloe Weh supported her strongly brother in that election, Cllr. Tiawan Gonloe, presidential candidate of the opposition Liberia People’s Party (LPP).

However, for the upcoming second round of balloting, Cllr. Gonloe’s LPP issued a statement this week declaring its support for former Vice President Joseph Boakai of the UP.

Also throwing his weight behind Boakai is former BBC Liberia Correspondent, Jonathan Paye-Layleh, who recently entered politics and unsuccessfully ran to be Representative of Nimba County District #8.

In a short statement this week, Paye-Layleh said: “THE WAY FOR LIBERIA IS BOAKAI”

“With no dislike for the other side, I have today formally endorsed the presidential bid of Amb. Joseph N. Boakai. I have taken a lot into consideration in deriving this decision. I will be in Bong and Nimba prevailing on the people there to think Liberia and vote Boakai. We need socio-economic stability, improved relationship with the outside world, especially with our traditional partner, the USA, dignity in labor and respect for rule of law.

Thankfully, at least five of us who recently contested in Nimba District Eight, including the winner, Hon. Saye Mianah, are standing fully with Amb.  Boakai. It’s not about us and what we want individually. It’s about the dignity of the place we call home. I wish Liberia a peaceful election,” Paye-Layleh said in his statement endorsing the Boakai ticket for the runoff election.
