Weah’s Grand Kru & 2 Southeastern Counties Refuse To Join Health Workers Strike

Despite threats of dismissal from the Liberian leader and his officials, the National Health Workers Union of Liberia (NAWUL) strike action is reportedly being shun the home County of President George Manneh Weah, Grand Kru and two other southeastern counties.

Including Montserrado, where the capital, Monrovia is situated, several counties and health workers have on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 embarked on the stay home strike action but with three Southeastern counties boycotting the struggle.

Those Southeastern counties are Maryland, RiverGeee and GR. Kru while, Margibi and Gbarpolu Counties are also reported of betraying the struggle with the National Health Workers Union of Liberia stay home strike action.

The health workers on September 2, 2020, gave government a two-week ultimatum to act upon the memorandum of understanding signed last during their stay home strike home action.

Several issues were highighted in the memorandum of understanding and such receiving their certificate of recognition.

A policy document on redeployment and transfer was formulated, which affect their members without the input of the union, the Union said.

They cited a huge disparity of healthcare workers and significant reduction in salaries as a result of the harmonization, which affect morally the out out of health care status.

The Liberian leader and his officials of government recently put gas in a blazing fire at a recent meeting at the Ministerial Complex in Congo town, instead of cutting off the fire with ease.

President Weah was quoted as saying, ‘if health workers stage a stay home strike action, he can dismissed them and bring in nursing students to replace them,’ something that inflamed the entire situation
