What’s Going On In Liberia National Wheelchair Basketball Federation?

(Last Updated On: )

Monrovia, Liberia, 02-21-2024:The Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Liberia National Wheelchair Basketball Federation (LNWBF), has with immediate effect revoked the status of Ms. Mamie Free as Goodwill Ambassador for Liberia National Wheelchair Basketball Federation and further terminate her affiliation with the federation, a press release says.

In early September 2023, the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Liberia National Wheelchair Basketball Federation (LNWBF) appointed Ms. Mamie Free as Goodwill Ambassador of the LNWBF with the mandate to represent the image of the federation on the international scene. Ms. Free’s appointment to the position was premised on the basis of demonstrating high degree of professionalism, transparency, accountability and credibility. It was agreed that she would serve as the middle-person between the LNWBF and the diaspora and would foster networks that would promote and advance the growth and development of wheelchair basketball in Liberia.

Unfortunately, however, it has become practically evident that Ms. Mamie Free has drifted away from the initial agreement made with the federation and has since embarked a path of self-seeking ventures. The LNWBF has come to realize that Ms. Free’s endeavors and interaction with diaspora sponsors has not served the best interest of the LNWBF but she has rather diverted all donations collected in the name of Liberia National Wheelchair Basketball Federation for her personal use and selfish desire. She has used the current portfolio entrusted to her by the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Liberia National Wheelchair Basketball Federation to engage into acts that are counter-productive to the LNWBF.

As a consequence of this selfish and unprofessional behavior on the part of Ms. Mamie Free, the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Liberia National Wheelchair Basketball Federation (LNWBF), on Monday, February 20, 2024, in a mass meeting, pass a “Vote of No Confidence” in Ms. Free, revoked the status of Goodwill Ambassador and further terminated any and all association and affiliation with her. The letter of revocation of status and termination of association, including a five-count resolution signed by executives of LNWBF was served to Ms. Free on February 20, 2024 by the chairman of the Baord of Directors, Mrs. Florence MaMusu Thornes.

Let it be known to all therefore that going forward Ms. Mamie Free is no more Goodwill Ambassador for Liberia National Wheelchair Basketball Federation, and she has no right to do any business in the name of the LNWBF. The general public is asked not to do any business with Ms. Free in the name of the federation as doing so may be at their own risk, said the press release signed by Klonnious D. Blamo, Secretary General.
