ACCRA, Ghana-The President of Ghana Nana Dankwa Akufo Addo has urged all African Countries and their First Ladies to win the battle against Infertility stigmatization.
President Addo made the call at the Kempsiki hotel in the Ghanaian capital during the sixth edition of Merck Africa Asia Luminary and Merck Foundation annual conference.
Serving as keynote speaker for the occasion, President Addo expressed sincere gratitude to Merck Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer for such an initiative and also to the African first ladies.
The Ghanaian leader said 26% of infertile women compare to 3% have never been married, adding that women in Ghana with infertile condition have been married.
President Addo disclosed that his country also raising awareness on diseases and it preventions and such diseases are diabetes, cancer Ashmon amongst several other diseases.
He also expressed that by 2030 Ghana to achieve unversisal health care in order to ensure sustainable health delivery adding that he believes in public innovation to reduce mobility and mortality.
The commander in Chief of Ghana revealed that his goal is to establish a strong accessible health care for the people of Ghana.
Narrating further, President Addo added that the goal for 2030 is to promote global development in which goal number five talk about achieving gender equality with a theme leaving no one behind.
He indicated that 52%of Ghana population is made up of females where as empowering women and gender equality constitute fundamental challenges for their development.
President Addo said infertility in men is 50% with couple inability to conceive and factor rwsponsibile are Economic, poor health, endocrological, genetic, poor health care among others and how to find solutions and also reducing stigmatization against infertile women and men.
The Ghanaian leader narrated that women suffer the most and he does not want infertile women to witch hunt themselves because most often they can be abandoned, stigmatized and inmutiated.
President Nana Addo asked everyone to collectively do their part in fight of reducing stigmatization and in finding solutions to infertile women and men problems across Africa.
For her part, the first lady of Ghana madam Rebecca Akufo Addo and also Merck more than a mother embassador and Co-chair on Merck Africa Asia luminary 6th edition said everyone should join hands together to fight stigmatization on infertile men and women.
Madam Akufo Addo said women with infertile condition suffer the most in our various communities and everyone should carrryout the awareness.
The Ghanaian first lady disclosed that she committed in fight of reducing stigmatization from infertile women and men in various forms like education through information and access to health care delivery amongs others.
The conference is been attended with delegates from 58 countries and over 1000 health ministers around across Africa to discuss strageties and how to break barrel and stigmatization against infertile women and men.
Merck foundation is a philitrophy arm and non governmental organization arm as reducing stigmatization from infertile women and men and how to find solutions toward their problems.
The vision of Merck foundation is to see a world where everyone can lead a healthy and fulfilling life.
Also the Mission of Merck and its partners are to support programs that raise awareness of disease prevention and early detection through access to information, health and change of mindset.
Also to expand professional capacities in scientific research, techonogy and healthcare and to improve access to innovative and equitable healthcare solutions and to build advocacy to address health, social and economic challenges and to empower women and youth in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The conference brought together first ladies from several African countries including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malari, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Central African Republic(CAR) and others are Chad and Burundi among others.
