As 36 out of 100 pregnant women die from Malaria, Prevail launches Malaria & HIV/AIDS studies

As Liberia continues to battle with Malaria and HIV/AIDS, studies are to be launched in this country by the scientific research organization, Prevail Liberia. 

Speaking at the Ministry of Information, Cultural and tourism regular press briefing on Thursday, the Principal Investigator of the Prevail studies,  Dr. Mosaka Fallah said they are transitioning from prevail studying Ebola to malaria and HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Fallah noted that malaria and HIV/AIDS rates are very high in the country which is very worrisome. According to the National Aids Commission and UNAIDS some 39, 000 people are currently infected with HIV.

Dr. Fallah disclosed that pregnant women and children mostly die from malaria, adding that out of one hundred thirty-six die.

He also added that they will be looking at eye issues specifically cataract because eyes and typhoid  problems has now become a national concern.

Prevail Liberia investigator Dr. Fallah said they will be looking at what causing the high increase of malaria, HIV/AIDS, infectious diseases among other diseases and recommend treatment.

He further added that they will also be addressing the challenges in getting HIV/AIDS drugs and building human capacity, because those diseases bother the people and nation at large.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister for Public Affairs at the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism, Eugene L. Fahngon has vowed to be responding to talk show hosts in the country on a daily basis, specifically the negative ones. 

Minister Fahngon disclosed that his focus will be on Freedom FM and Roots FM playing their recordings and he will be going live to clarify to public and let the public make the judgment between the government and radio talk host about who telling the truth.
