GBARNGA, Liberia–Bong County is staging its fifth County Council Sitting under the administration of Superintendent Hawa Loleyah Norris.
The sitting, which started on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, will was slated to end on Wednesday, October 23.
The Council Sitting is coinciding with the review of the Superintendent’s 100 days reports, and past administration turnover documents revision.
The 2024 administration new plans, and the General Auditing Commission (GAC) reports revisions as well as progresses and challenges were highlighted.
Prior to the staging of the two-day event, many Bongese have called on the County Council headed by Mr. Aaron Sackie-Fenlah to prioritize the county’s development.
“As we start the process today, we will appreciate the County Council to construct the playground or Park for our children, focus on road development, among others” some of the residents phoned on local radio stations in the county.
Other CSOs including the Delta Human Rights Foundation, Foundation for International Dignity, Women and Child Aid Initiative, the media, Bong Students Union, People Living with Disabilities, among others.
Day one of the event witnessed the reading of various motions inclusive of a motion to adapt the agenda item and its procedure and roll call, and motion of joint Session of the execution by a member of County Council, Mr. T. Miller Bondo.
Speaking at the first day, Bong County Finance Officer, Mr. Silas K. Tokpa disclosed that the county has $641,609.25 USD with $128,116,771.35 Liberian Dollars.
He disclosed that Internal Auditors are working to verify the current liabilities that the county owe.
The total liability is $809,090.75 USD for the Current PMC payment, former PMC payment, payment to institutions and project liabilities.
According to Silas, the county has a total receivable at the Central Bank of Liberia 5,119,950 USD.
Remarking, Bong County Superintendent Madam Loleyah Hawa Norris highlighted her five months’ achievement.
She also announced the installation of CCTV cameras to the Gbarnga Administration Building soon to enable security at the Government facility.
Under her administration, she named the rewiring of the entire Compound, planting of beans in the fourteen administrative districts of Bong County, the fencing of both the Superintendent Compound and the Gbarnga Administration Building, digging of a well (borehole) to supply water in the building rather than people fetching waters on their head, among others in 100 hundred days.
Superintendent Norris called on residents of the county to join her in developing the county.
She however rated the ongoing construction projects as 90%.
Day two, according to the County Council, will focus on budget presentation.
The event is currently taking place at the Gbarnga Administration Building in the central Bong County.
