By Garmah Never Lomo, garmahlomo@gmail.comTEMPLE OF JUSTICE, Monrovia- The Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice sent to prison a woman who was arrested with the narcotic drug, Kush at the Monrovia Central Prison when she went to visit her jailed brother.
The woman is identified as Mariama Kanteh, age 34, was arrested with five plastic bags of kush and a tube of cocaine when she went to visit her brother at the prison facility.
Defendant Kanteh was arrested by Ruth W. Johnson who is a Correction Officer at the Monrovia Central Prison (South Beach) on July 24, 2024, in possession of five medicine plastics of mixed cannabis and fentanyl commonly known as Kush along with one tube of cocaine.
The police investigation resolved to charge Defendant Kanteh with the commission of the crime of “UNLICENSED POSSESSION OF CONTROL DRUGS OR SUBSTANCE” which is in violation of Chapter 14, section 14.89 of the New Drugs Law of Liberia pending trial by a court of competent jurisdiction.
The street value of the substances is put at LS17,500 and the one tube of cocaine is in the tune of L$50,000. She was informed of her miranda rights which she waived and her statement was taken voluntarily.
Upon receipt of the defendant, an investigation was conducted by the police at which time she admitted to the allegation. According to police charge sheet, the defendant narrated that on the 24th of July 2024 at 1:40 pm while on her way to visit her brother Mohammed Kanteh a convict at the Monrovia Central Prison, she received a call from one Titus to be identified, also a convict at the Monrovia Central Prison, who told her via phone to go on UN Drive and pick-up something for him.
She also narrated that upon her arrival, she went and collected a black plastic bag contained five medical plastics of what she referred to as Kush and a tube of Cocaine from a bike rider which she did not open and when she entered the compound of the central prison with the plastic.
Based on that, she was arrested and turned over to the Anti-Narcotics Unit of the Liberia National ror investigation. During the investigative findings, the defendant denied been owner of the plastic bag given her by the bike rider, who is at large and yt to be identified. It was said to contain the five medical plastics of substances, which was examined and established to be the mixture of cannabis and fentanvl commonly known as Kush and admitted that the black plastic bag containing the narcotics substances was in her possession when she entered the prison compound.
The police said that the plastic bag, which contained cocaine and the mixture of cannabis and fentany, were discovered with the defendant at the prison facility belonging to her.
According to the Police charge sheet, the street or black market valued of the entire dangerous drugs and controlled substances stand at L$67,000 which was found in possession of the defendant.
