Health authorities in Monrovia have confirmed a suspected coronavirus case from Grand Gedeh County.

Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer Francis Tetteh spoke of a single case, but other health sources from the county speak of two.

This comes as Liberia already has three confirmed cases of the virus, which has become a global pandemic.

The official case involves a 22-year-old woman said to have crossed over from Ivory Coast into Liberia via the Niabo Cavalla District in Grand Gedeh on Thursday evening of March 26, 2020 along with her four year old son to seek treatment at the Gboleken Clinic.

Upon testing and examination, she is reported to have shown all of the symptoms of the disease.

Contact tracing is underway, with 11 Gboleken Clinic Staff and patients in quarantine.

The suspected case was isolated at the clinic and later brought to the Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital’s triage in Zwedru on Friday evening. She’s said to be in stable condition and undergoing treatment, awaiting results of specimen already sent to Monrovia.

Dr. Ketteh said the case from Grand Gedeh so far remains suspected and not confirmed.

Liberia at the moment has only two confirmed COVID-19 cases.
