Women candidates who lost want inclusion in the CDC gov’t

Defeated female candidates under the banner of the Liberia Women National Political Forum are calling for inclusion of women in the incoming government of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).

They want the leadership of CDC to ensure that more women are given the opportunity to serve in the new government.

The women announced this position following a consultative meeting with the executives and partner organizations on in Monrovia over the weekend.

President-elect George Weah, they said should consider including well-meaning Liberians in the formation of the new government, irrespective of their political and religious affiliations.

More than 200 in number, the losing women candidates observed that the participation of females in the political process remains a challenge.

“The presence of a woman in the second seat of governance in the country will continue to motivate and strengthen women’s resolve to press forward,” the women politicians said.

The National Women Political Forum also stated that they will remain committed and engaged in advocating for increase in females representation in the national decision making process at all levels in Liberia.

The defeated female legislative contestants said they are pleased with the election of their counterparts as representatives-elect in the House.

They called on the House of Representatives, especially female lawmakers to ensure that they perform unconditionally to enact good laws that will improve the lives of thousands of poverty stricken Liberians, mainly women and children.

Meanwhile, the women politicians have congratulated President –elect George Manneh Weah and Vice president-elect Jewel Howard Taylor on their certification as winners of the December26th, 2017 presidential run-off election.
