KARLUWAY, Liberia– Several Women Groups in the southeastern Maryland County electoral District #3 are benefitting from a 2.7 million Liberian dollars microfinance loan scheme, thanks to one of their Senators.
Senator J. Gbleh-bo Brown’s financial assistance program is meant to empower local women and improve their businesses in various parts of the county, which is over 591 kilometers from Monrovia.
This Microfinance loan program was launched on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in the Old Kru Town community in Harper city. The Old Kru town. Community Women were given three hundred thousand dollars as their share of the program launched by the County’s Senator.
According to Sen. Brown, his Microfinance loan program is intended to improve the livelihood and empower women in the County to help their husbands despite the economic situation Liberia is faced with.
He told Journalists at the launch of the loan scheme that his his program will reach out to the four districts in Maryland County–Harper, Pleebo, Barrobo and Karluway, with women groups his main focus.
Sen. Brown recalled that in 2017, he launched the first phase of the Microfinance Loan program with LD$1.875,000.00, which was managed and placed in the hands of the Maryland Women groupings headed by Madam Annie Slewion of Harper City.
The Liberian Lawmaker lamented that the eleven towns in Karluway district will benefit from two million, two hundred and fifty thousand Liberian Dollar from the 2.7Million Liberian Dollar Microfinance Loan.
Sen. Brown chairs the Senate Committee on Internal Affairs, Good Governance and Reconciliation at the national the Liberian senate.
It is hoped that the Senator’s Microfinance Loan scheme will bring relief to women and reduce hardship, in the wake of Liberia’s current economic crunch as his assistance program goes across the entire county
Speaking to www.newspublictrust.com, heads of women groups in the district thanked and praised senator J. Gbleh-bo Brown for being farsighted and coming to their aid.
The financial help is expected to empower them, so as to contribute to their various homes through their business ventures.
Jemama Kabe, head of Doloken Women group lauded the efforts of the senator for empowering women through his Microfinance Loan scheme.
“We women in this town are very happy that senator Brown will come and bring this money to better our families lives and I can assure you and your team that this amount will be used for it intended purpose.”
Francis Brown, head of the Henogbe Women group described the senator initiatives as an opportunity for the women in this town to improved our businesses and change our living conditions as well.
Senator Brown concluded his mission by giving two hundred thousand Liberian dollars to the women of Gbaken Township.
Responding to the Senator’s gesture, officials of Gbaken women madam, comfort Davies and Betty Jasper lauded the Senator for his financial empowerment.
For this part, chiefs and elders of the township praised Sen. Brown, nothing that this is the first of its kind in the history of Gbaken.
Both speakers promised Sen. Brown and delegation that the money will used for it intended purpose.
