2 Bong County Lawmakers Lead By Example In Promoting Agriculture

GBARNGA, Liberia-Two Representatives of Liberia’s central Bong County have been showcasing the importance of improving agriculture, in order to address food insecurity.

Bong County electoral district #3 Representative Josiah Marvin Cole says investing in agriculture is one of the “best ways to boost Liberia’s struggling economy and end poverty,”as he showcases his farming project.

Rep. Cole said the future of the county largely depends on its agricultural sector, which he described as “the county’s best bet for growth and development.”

He wants people of the county to venture into farming in order to become self-reliant.

Agriculture pays a lot my fellow citizens. Our soil is rich; let us make some maximum use of it,”

Rep. Cole was speakingd recently in Suakoko during the start of his rice farm project.

“We can’t continue to be baggers, let us plant potatoes, peppers, cassava, corn, rice and among others.”

The Bong County District #3 Lawmaker then assured locals that as their “son and lawmaker”, he will continue to work with communities to ensure the county regains its pre-war food security status.

Also, Salala district Representative, Moima Briggs Mensah recently begun the harvesting of 52 acres of land with Liberia stable food (Rice).

Rep. Mensah visited her farm recently to start the new rice harvest of the 3-months rapid yield hybrid nutritious variety that is now available for residents in the district and its environs.

Addressing the media, local harvesters, and other dignitaries at the farm site recently, honestly.

Rep. Mensah called on farmers to venture into agricultural activities with all seriousness, stating that her office is ready to support them in making sure rice is affordable to all Liberian and residents of Salala District and its surrounding in order to reduce the huge burden on nationa government.

She further informed farmers that because of the massive rice plantation, the harvest on the farm will continue, while she ensures that residents of the District get involved in rice production.
