23 Women Farmers Benefit From US$ 5,000.00 Interest-Free Loan Project In Lofa, Liberia

Six Towns Directly Linked To The Wologizi Mountain Are Benefitting

VOINJAMA, Liberia—Twenty-three women farmers here in northwestern Lofa County have benefited from a Five Thousand United States Dollars interest-free loan scheme.

The provision of loan is part of a pilot program currently being implemented by the Village Development Fund (VDF) in six towns directly linked to the Wologize Mountain.

Speaking during the disbursement ceremony here yesterday (September 12, 22024), the Executive Director for the Village Development Fund Hawa Kanneh disclosed that the five thousand United States Dollars loan was provided by the Advocates for Community Alternatives (ACA)

“We at the Village Development Fund with support from the Advocates for Community Alternatives (ACA) have been engaged in empowering women in rural communities through the provision of grants especially to women in Voinjama district,” she noted.

Beneficiaries of phase one of the project are expected to begin paying back the cash given after a period of three months.

She called on the beneficiaries to utilize the fund for its internal purpose and that funds emanating from the business can be used to sustain and improved their businesses.

In remakes, the Civil Society Organization Chairperson for Lofa Mohammed Karma welcomed the opportunity provided to the women.

He encouraged the beneficiaries to be committed to the loan agreement something he said will also pave the way for other women in the county.

“These are initiatives that we believe will help to transform the lives of our people in rural communities and we are so grateful to you DVF and your partner Advocates for Community Alternatives,” Mr. Karma emphasized.

Speaking on behalf of the women, Kebeh M. Pewee, a beneficiary of the project expressed gratitude to the Village Development Fund (VDF) and the Advocates for Community Alternatives (ACA) for identifying their community for such program.

She said this is the first of its kind for their town to benefit from a micro loan project and promised to utilize the funds giving to them and committing to repay the funds.
