Monrovia– The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) expresses deep sorrow over the loss of three esteemed members within the month of July, the PUL has disclosed.
The journalism community has been profoundly affected by this unfortunate sequence of events, marking a period of collective mourning as we bid farewell to Daniel Kerkulah of Bong County, George Borteh of Grand Cape Mount County, and Samuel Prosper Devine Kamara of Montserrado County.
On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, journalist Daniel Kerkulah passed away in Bong County, leaving a void that will be felt by all who knew him. His final resting place became Saturday, July 22, 2023. Kerkulah’s contributions to media spanned several platforms, including Hott FM Gbarnga, Radio Kwatekeh, D TV-Liberia Online, and Prime FM Bong County Correspondent, a PUL press release said earlier this week.
Meanwhile, George Borteh, a dedicated journalist hailing from Grand Cape Mount County, peacefully departed on Friday, July 28, 2023, at the Redemption Hospital in New Kru Town after enduring a prolonged illness. True to his beliefs, Borteh was laid to rest on the same day, adhering to his faith. Over the years, he had made significant contributions to journalism, notably as a judicial reporter for the Inquirer Newspaper and subsequently for the New Republic Newspaper.
Lastly, journalist Samuel Prosper Devine Kamara’s brief illness led to his passing on Monday, July 31, 2023. Kamara’s dedication and tireless efforts were evident through his roles as Station Manager at Big FM and Deputy Station Manager at Brush FM. His legacy will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
The Press Union of Liberia profoundly laments the untimely loss of these accomplished journalists, Daniel Kerkulah, George Borteh, and Samuel Prosper Devine Kamara. They demonstrated an unwavering commitment to their profession and a genuine desire to drive positive change for the greater good. Their absence leaves an irreplaceable void, especially during these times of challenge.
The PUL extends its heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues, friends, and well-wishers who share in the grief caused by this loss. We urge everyone to find strength in unity as we navigate this period of mourning together.
Furthermore, the PUL will soon announce the commencement of a shared book of condolence in honor of our departed colleagues, following consultations with their families and close associates.
