CAPITOL HILL, Monrovia- The Liberia National Police in Monrovia early Monday morning arrested three supporters of Lofa County Senator-elect, J. Brownie Samukai, ahead of President George Weah’s 5th State of the Nation Address.
They had planned to protest on Monday in the wake of the over one year delay in the certification of Mr. Samukai, former Defense Minister, who won the November 8, 2020 Special Senatorial election in Lofa County on the ticket of the opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP).
Speaking at a news conference, the chairman for the “Friends of Samukai”, Mr, Mark Abias Biaty said that the action by the police is totally against democracy.
But Mr. Biaty said despite the arrest of the colleagues, they will not be intimidated by the presence of police neither AFL.
According to Mr. Biaty, the action of the police is just a pre-lude to 2023 elections where voters will be coherce and intimidated by the presence of police who will be assigned at various polling places to vote for the political leader of the CDC and other CDC candidates who will be contesting along with their political.
Mr. Biaty added that the Police action by arresting their colleagues is a broad day dictatorship exhibited their officers of the Liberia National Police whom they referred to as CDC police.
Narrating further, Mr. Biaty disclosed that their protest is a violent protest but rather it is a protest to call the attention of the government for the under representation of their beloved Lofa County, whose senator has been denied to take seat at the Liberian senate due to his criminal conviction.
Meanwhile, a little tussle ensured between both the police and the protesters with one of the officers of presidential elite force, EPS, insulting one of the protester’s mother.
But it was claimed down by another EPS the officer and they later the instruction of the state securities to cross the road in front of the University of Liberia but not around the capitol building.
