Reports from Dahnlorpa Community, a suburb of Sanniquellie City in Liberia’s northeastern Nimba County say five children have died as the result of lightning strike, while three others are on critical list at G.W. Harley Hospital, 325 kilometers from Monrovia.

The children ages range from four to six years.

The incident reportedly occurred Saturday evening between 5-6 Pm GMT. And it has brought shock to people in the area, with some tempted to blame it on strange circumstances.

One report says four died instantly and the fifth victim died upon arrival at the  G. W. Harley health facility in Sanniquellie.

The other three children hit by Saturday’s lightning strike are said to be in critical condition and they are all said to be grandchildren of the father of the Manager of the local Community Radio Sehnwai in Sanniquellie City.

When the lightning struck, some of the children were said to be playing, while the others were waiting for the rain to subside in front of a mobile phone charging booth very close to their house. Report compiled by Garmah Never Lomo, garmahlomo@gmail.com
