Bong County Hit By The First Confirmed Coronavirus Death Case

GBARNGA, Liberia- The central Bong County has recorded its first confirmed Coronavirus/COVID-19 case, the County Health Officer announced on Thursday, June 4, 2020, as the total number of deaths from the killer virus rises to 28.

According to the June 3, 2020 stats from the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL),the total number of confirmed cases in Liberia has now gone up to  321. In just one day, this nation recorded five new cases (June 2-3, 2020. But there has been 6 new recoveries reported in recent days..

Dr. Adolphus Yeiah, the County’s Health Officer made the disclosure on June 4, 2020 at a press conference in Gbarnga.

He said the virus was brought into the County by a 52-year-old man, a resident of the Millionaire Quarter Community in Gbarnga.

According to Dr. Yeah, the man died in the Community, and the discovery was made after his specimen was taken to Monrovia for testing and was proven positive by the National Public Health Institute (NPHIL). The victim has not yet been buried, local health officials say, .

Dr. Yeiah further explained that there were eight person who interacted with the man and at present, they have been quarantined at their home, while they will be monitored by heath officials in the County.

The Bong County Health Officer further disclosed that the Health Team is currently facing huge challenges including the lack of vehicles to transport patients to the various hospitals in Bong  and  they lack drugs, fuel and Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).
