After Conceding Defeat, Lofa Sen. Candidate Momo Cyrus Vows To Run Again In 2023

VOINJAMA, Liberia- Tallying of votes is continuing in the northwestern Lofa County after Tuesday’s peacefully conducted Senatorial By-elections, which featured six candidates, and the National Elections Commission (NEC) is yet to release any provisional results.

But from unofficial numbers coming out so far from various polling centers, it appears that Independent candidate, Cllr. Joseph Jallah and the candidate of the main opposition Unity Party, Galakpai Kortimai are garnering high numbers.

Already one of the candidates who ran as Independent, Momo Cyrus has publically conceded defeat, but is not dropping his ambition to enter the Senate, vowing to return to the race in the g 2023 election, when half of the 30-member Senate seats will be up for grabs.

Mr. Cyrus made the disclosure in Voinjama city on Wednesday, June 29,2022 in a news conference.

According to Mr. Cyrus, who is Chief Executive Officer of the SEGAL private security company based in Monrovia, said that he will accept the result that will be announced by the NEC authority later.

But he called on his supporters to the presumptive winner of the race, adding that all those who contested are all sons and daughters of Lofa County.

“Anyone who wins, Lofa County wins, because Lofa is their common denominator and he will always make his services, resource and talents available to the winner of the election and always ensure that Lofa benefits in whatever ways,” Mr. Cyrus admonished his fellow citizens.

The self-declared defeated candidate Cyrus however, added that he doesn’t necessarily has to be senator before contributing to his county and country at large.

Gives kudos to his supporters

He appreciated his supporters, especially the One Lofa Movement for voting, more especially his first time contesting, has motivated him to contest in 2023.

Speaking further, Mr. Cyrus made it clear that he is not disappointed in the people of Lofa County, because the people of this county knew what they want through their votes, adding that the process was transparent, free and fair.

“I am now in politics and I am a stakeholder now and I will contest in 2023 given my position in the just ended election,” the private business and seurity executive-turned politician.

Coming in the race within four months with the caliber of people in the race, he sees himself as a huge stakeholder in Lofa and re-stated he will again contest to deliver to the people of Lofa County by engaging citizens as approach the 2023 elections.

According to Mr. Cyrus, they are going to work on their weakness or where they fall short during the By-election and re-strategized for the 2023 election.

His shortfall

One of the things that affected him was the timing, because he never has the opportunity to touch every parts of Lofa during the campaign process.

However, Mr. Cyrus has urged his supporters to accept the result and get prepared for 2023 adding that his team will decide whether he will contest for the representative position or senate.

During his campaign, he made some promises which could be fulfilled if elected and other promises will be fulfilled, even in the absence of his election.

Meanwhile, Mr. Cyrus has told Journalists that he is prepared to congratulate any winner of the election.
