“We wants the world to know that we did not leave from the Unity Party but it was the UP that left us and put us out,” Benoni Urey, the political leader of the opposition All Liberian Party (ALP) has stated as he recently vowed to teach former Vice President Joseph Boakai’s Unity Party a lesson in the October 10 elections.
At a program in Monrovia recently, the ALP leader spoke strongly against the presidential bid of UP’s Standard Bearer Boakai, vowing that the ALP will use the October 10th presidential and legislative elections to let the Unity Party know that it “is a force to reckon with”.
Mr. Urey was speaking when the 36 legislative aspirants were certificated by the party at the ALP’s headquarter in Congo Town recently (last Thursday).
According to the ALP leader, his party which broke ranks with UP few weeks ago, has worked with the Unity Party for the past five to six years but as the presidential and legislative elections date draws nearer, they said did not want any collaboration, describing it as the “greatest betrayal” ever existed in Liberia politically.
“Before then, they (Boakai and his UP) influenced us to start working for the formation of the Democratic Alliance and at the end of the day, they said they do not need the DA again.”

According to the ALP leader, the UP said they did not need the Democratic Alliance since there was no confusion in their party because the Democratic Alliance was only meant for a ‘fall-back’ position
Mr. Urey explained that the UP convinced his and Professor Alaric Togba to form the Democratic Alliance as he was speaking , the UP has ‘hijacked’ the documents of the DA and money sent from the United States to open the bank account
“Based on these prevailing circumstances, the national executive committee of the ALP has passed a resolution that we no longer support the Unity Party.”
The ALP standard bearer also alleged that the Unity Party also used their tribal pressure to take four of the legislative aspirants after his party has nurtured them.
“But, we will let them know that during this election, we are a force to reckon with and I want to let the world to know that we will never be used like that again.”
“We spent our time and resources on the Unity Party for six years, but just because of two or three legislative seats, they fight us “ he said asking how were they be so wicked and evil ? I want the world to know that we are not stupid and we will never be used that way again,” Mr. Urey said; noting: “God is a wonderful supernatural being because he has shown us these people now. If we had gone through these elections and they have won, they would have treated us like dogs and trash; but I am telling you that your voices will be heard and at the appropriate time we will meet and decide where next. Nobody should think that we are owing anything and we have to support them; because politics is interest and anywhere the party decides that we will support, we will support that with all the forces at our disposal,” Mr. Urey told his supporters and the public.
The ALP leader said the changes in the country will start at the national legislature and expressed optimism for the people nominated on his party’s ticket in the elections
At the end of the program, 36 aspirants including one woman and two senatorial candidates were certificated.
