Monrovia -April 29, 2026–Alexander B. Cummings, political leader of the opposition Alternative National Congress(ANC), has vowed not to take his salary as president of Liberia, pledging to divert his salary to significant sectors that will improve and equip Liberia, particularly in the area of STEM education.

Speaking as guest on a local show in Monrovia, Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Cummings declared that, though he does not know what exactly the president of Liberia takes home as salary, he will make public whatever salary allocated to the presidency and will donate it to institutions that are in dire needs of the money.

“Today, whatever the salary is for the President, I don’t know what it is, I don’t know whether it is public, but whatever it is I will make it public, and I will donate it to some charity”, he asserted.

Cummings further emphasized: “I will not take a salary as president. I will make it public wherever I am going to donate my salary”.

He then expresses affection for STEM education and Engineering, highlighting these sectors as some of areas he will transfer his salary for significant improvement. The political actor believes that if critical areas are targeted and supported, Liberia stands a chance to compete with other nations making significant inroads in this sector.

“I like STEM education. I might allocate it to improve that area”, Cummings noted.

Despite making his plan clears of some of what he is desirous of doing, Cummings makes it clear that he is not against any president who takes salary. According to him, he is expressing his willingness to donate his salary because he is being blessed.

Cummings says his motive behind fronting for the Liberian presidency is based on his willingness to serve his country, disclosing that he has no intention to enrich himself, but rather to contribute significantly to growth and progress of the country.

“And that doesn’t mean other people should not take a salary. I am being blessed”, Cummings expressed.

Critics say similar promise has been made in the past. They noted public service should come with strong policies that improve Liberia entirely for the betterment of the country.

Cummings has contested two presidential elections in Liberia. On October 10, 2017, he vied for the presidency on ticket of the Alternative National Congress(ANC)obtaining a total of 112, 067 votes amounting to 7.2 percent of the total votes cast in the general elections.

His percentage in the 2023 general elections depreciated to 29,613 which is equivalent to 1.61 percent. This percent has sparked public debate in the decline of his previous percentage.
