Nimba County- ArcelorMittal Liberia at the weeken reported a rail incident involving two locomotives, but there is conflicting account as to the number of persons injured. .
An AML press statement on Friday, May 21, 2021 said that the accident happened at about 12:00 AM (midnight) between Kilometers 188 and 189 near Ganta City, Nimba County.
There was no fatality however, two persons sustained fractures and medical care has been coordinated by AML.
However, the local Daily Observer newspaper reporter, who is based in the area, reports 14 persons, including women and children wounded. The Journalist reports that among the 14 victims, 6 females and 8 males, three minors (all females) were among those wounded.
According to the iron ore mining company’s statement, the trains were traveling in opposite directions from Yekepa to Buchanan.

A full-scale investigation has been launched and a business continuity plan is being prepared.
