SPORTS: Momo Blamo Surprised By Late Call To Liberia National Lone Star Team

It seems to be like a dream come true for the Prince of Goal of Careysburg  club, Shaita FC Momo Blamo as he received a late call to the men’s senior national team of Liberia the Lone Star during the afternoon hours on Sunday, 25 February 2024.

It can be recalled that the newly appointed coach of Lone Star Coach Mario Marinica names his 30- men squad on  Sunday, 25 February days after his  appointment as Head Coach for the Lone Star of Liberia  by the Local Football House ( LFA)  in Monrovia which did not include the 2022-2023 Orange National League-2nd Division MVP and Golden Boot Winner Momo Blamo, but with a day to kick-off his training session with the 30-men called the Romanian tactician Mario Marinica give a late call for the Prince of Goal of Shaita FC.

Blamo’s late call to feature on the Senior National Men’s Team of Liberia marks his second but first from a foreign coach since the departure of Coach Ansu Keita.

The Margibi County “Wonderboy” Momo Blamo got his first call to the senior national men’s team under the watchful eyes of Coach Ansu Keita in 2023 during his spell with the team in which such team was for the CHAN tournament.

Since Momo Blamo moves to the second top tier league of domestic football the Orange National League-2nd Division the youngster Blamo has proven his worth where he scores 30 goals in all competition for club Shaita FC (formerly Tony FC ) in his debut season.

His clinical finish in front of goal made him the club highest goal scorer and moreover the competition highest goal scorer where he clinched the 2022-2023 Golden Boot and won the MVP.

He sets the record of becoming the first player in the second division league to achieve a double accolade.

Blamo became the first player to hail from Margibi County to achieve such double accolades.

As we speak the Orange National League-2nd Division MVP and Golden Boot Winner Blamo had recorded 22 goals in 18 appearances in all competition for Shaita FC in the 2023-2024 League Season.

Blamo is currently the club highest goal scorer and moreover he is among the first top 4 highest goal scorer in the second top tier league of domestic football the Orange National League-2nd Division.

The Liberia Men’s Senior National Team Coach Mario Marinica started his first training session in the morning and with his second in the afternoon’s hours on Monday, 26 February at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville.

It is understood that the Romanian tactician Mario Marinica boys will be having a three -day training camp which will be held weekly, is part of the Lone Star’s preparations for the upcoming 2025 AFCON preliminary round qualifiers.

Gabriel Collins of LISCR FC and Momo Blamo of Shaita FC got a late call up to the squad, replacing Kpah Sherman and Kertu Jerbo.

“I feels so happy call upon to serve my country this has been a dream come true for me when I was a lil boy playing in Kakata, Margibi County, but above all it is God doing” says Momo Blamo.

The training sessions are part of Lone Star’s upcoming double fixtures against Djibouti in the preliminary round of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
